Wahneta Man Receives Maximum Sentence on Drug Charge

A Wahneta man arrested in 1999 on drug charges was sentenced today (Friday, Sept. 29, 2000) in Tampa Federal Court to 40 years-the maximum sentence allowable under guidelines.

Jose Luviano, DOB 8/1/69, of 312 Pine Street in Wahneta, was arrested Dec. 31, 1999, and charged with Armed Trafficking in Methamphetamine (1 count) following a joint undercover operation by the Methamphetamine Task Force.

The task force included members from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, FDLE, Lakeland Police Department, and the DEA. During the operation, Luviano sold one pound of methamphetamine to an undercover officer. Detectives believe that Luviano has been involved in a major methamphetamine trafficking organization operating in the Polk County area since 1996.
