Number to Change for Anonymous Safe Campus Reporting Line

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has a new toll free phone number for the anonymous safe campus reporting line. The new number, 1-877-7BE-BRAVE (1-877-723-2728), is an avenue for students to report criminal activity while remaining anonymous.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is the tenth county in the state to join the Florida Sheriff's Association Statewide School Safety Hotline. By joining the Florida Sheriff's Association hotline, records on school safety will be centralized to one location. The information may then be used to evaluate school safety, educational needs or the need for prevention programs as the school board considers necessary. The procedure for reporting suspicious activity will not change in Polk County and the phone line will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Since the original line was established in August, the safe campus reporting line has received 42 calls. One arrest has been made, Peter Rigsby, DOB 3/3/66, of 1330 Morningside Drive, of Lake Wales was charged with failure to properly secure a firearm. The majority of the calls received so far have been information type calls which vary from advising us to where a party was going to be to who was bringing tobacco on campus.
