Lakeland Man Arrested in String of Burglaries

Polk County Sheriff's Office detectives Mark Taylor and Jason Varnadore of the Property Crimes Unit have charged a Lakeland man with 35 counts of burglary in a string of burglaries that have occurred from Alturas to Polk City.

Arrested was:

Miguel Angel Soto, DOB 1/19/54, of 3208 US Highway 92 East in Lakeland; charged with:

  • 30 counts burglary to residential structure
  • 1 count burglary to a business structure
  • 4 counts armed burglary
  • 7 counts possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • 35 counts grand theft
  • 32 counts dealing in stolen property
  • 1 count aggravated battery

There are charges pending with the Winter Haven Police Department that include 5 counts of burglary to a residence and 5 counts of grand theft.

Polk County Sheriff's Office detectives received information in December of 1999 that began the investigation. Detectives believe from June to December between $50,000 and $60,000 worth of property may have been stolen. Most of the stolen property has been recovered and returned to their owners.

The investigation continues and additional charges are pending.
