Back to School Safety Tips

The beginning of the school year is always a good time to remind students and motorist of safety. The Polk County Sheriff's Office has the following safety tips for students who walk or ride bicycles to and from school. 

* Look left, right and left again before crossing a road.
* Obey all traffic signs and lights.
* Use the sidewalk and never wander from the path to school.
* Walk, never run, through a crossing.
* Obey the crossing guard.
* Always wear a helmet when riding a bike.
* Always ride your bike with traffic.
* Look both ways before riding out of a driveway.
* Check for traffic before making a turn. 

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reminds motorist to make School Zones, Safe Zones by obeying all school zone speed limits and obeying school crossing guards. 

The Sheriff's Office also encourages students to report criminal activity or drug activity to the School Safety Hotline at 1-877-7BE-BRVE (1-877-723-2728). Students can remain anonymous.
