Weekend Jail Visitation Canceled During Move to South County Jail

The Polk County Sheriff's Office Department of Detention has announced that all visitation hours at both the main jail and the jail annex will be canceled this coming weekend - April 1-2, 2000 - during the relocation of inmates to the new South County Jail and the closing of the old main jail.

Visitation should resume as normal the following weekend, April 8-9, 2000. For more information on annex weekend visitation, call 534-6153.

Visitors are reminded that after this weekend, inmates no longer will be housed at the old main jail located in downtown Bartow. The main jail housing unit is being closed down, and all female inmates previously held there will be moved to the jail annex located in East Bartow.

Also during this weekend's move, approximately 750 male inmates will be transferred to the new South County Jail. Visitation hours for South County Jail general population inmates have been set for the following days each week: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 7-10 a.m. and 12-3 p.m. Inmates in protective custody may see visitors on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 3:15-6:15 p.m.
