Man Charged With 400 Counts Possession Of Child Pornography

Following an investigation by members of the Polk County Sheriff's Office Computer Crimes Unit and Special Victims Response Team, a Haines City man was charged today (Thursday, Apr. 12, 2001) with 400 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

Mario Rodriguez, DOB 9/12/41, of 1905 South 10th Street in Haines City, was charged today by the State Attorney's Office following a Sheriff's Office investigation in which detectives discovered 400 photos of child pornography on the suspect's computer. Rodriguez already was being held
in the Polk County Jail on a previous charge of Violation of Probation (probation was for a prior Sexual Battery and Lewd Act on child under 12).

Sheriff's Office detectives initially arrested Rodriguez on Feb. 8, 2001, for Violation of Probation after the suspect admitted he had downloaded child pornography on his computer (in violation of the terms of his probation.) The investigation continued, and based on the suspect's statements, a search warrant was obtained. During the search, computer equipment was taken into evidence and analysis revealed 400 photos of child pornography. The State Attorney's Office reviewed the evidence and
direct filed the charges today.

The bond amount for the 400 counts of Child Pornography is set at $400,000. The investigation is continuing.
