Following an early morning investigation, Polk County Sheriff's Office Detention Deputy Dewey Gilford Addison, Jr., DOB 11/14/72, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (of alcohol) with a blood alcohol level of .118.
The investigation began after the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call at 2:20 a.m. in reference to a careless driver in the area of Crystal Beach Rd. in Winter Haven. Polk County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the area and observed a 1999 GMC pick-up truck driven by Addison swerving on the road. Deputies conducted a routine traffic stop and field sobriety test which Addison did not pass.
Addison, who is currently a probational employee, was hired by the Polk County Sheriff's Office in July of 2000 as a Detention Deputy assigned to the South County Jail. Addison was arrested without incident, and booked into the Polk County Jail. Addison was released after posting a $500 bond. Addison has been suspended with pay pending a review of the charges.
