14-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR THREATENING TO BOMB SCHOOL

A 14-year-old Ridge Middle School student was arrested early this morning, Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, and charged with threatening to bomb his middle school in Dundee.

Aaron Lay, DOB 11/17/86, of 1093 Shady Cove Road in Haines City, was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. this morning at his residence and charged with one count Threatening to Place a Destructive Device (F2). He was booked into the Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center.

The investigation was prompted yesterday afternoon after Sheriff's Office deputies received information that Lay had been telling fellow students that he had learned how to make a bomb on the Internet and was going to blow up the middle school.

Detectives immediately tracked down the information, and Lay was arrested this morning after admitting to detectives that he had been threatening to blow up the school.

No evidence or ingredients of a bomb were found.
