In a joint safety project, the Polk County Sheriff's Office School Crossing Unit and the Polk County Traffic Safety Team will coordinate the fourth annual "Crossing Safely-to and from school" week Sept. 10-14, 2001.
The "Crossing Safely" program was implemented in 1997 and is designed to raise community awareness about the importance of safety in school zones and crossings.
As part of this ongoing effort to improve traffic safety, education materials will be made available to al elementary schools throughout the county.
Everyone is encouraged to do their part and help make School Zones - Safe Zones.
