Death of 6 Year Old

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies are conducting the death investigation of 6-year-old Savannah Redfern, DOB 1-3-95.

At approximately 9:42 p.m., medical personnel contacted the Sheriff's Office regarding a white female child brought in by her parents earlier that evening. The little girl had been burned with Hydrofluoric Acid and was subsequently air-lifted to Tampa General Hospital. As deputies were enroute, she was pronounced dead.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m., at 4040 Vinson Road, Lakeland. Deputies advised that emergency personnel were first notified via cellular phone, by Savannah's mother, and that she was transporting her daughter to the hospital because of the chemical burns to her legs.

Upon their arrival, at approximately 5:05 p.m., it was determined that the injuries to her legs and buttocks were life threatening. LRMC Emergency physician Dr. Luxod, contacted the burn center in Tampa, and at 7:10 p.m., the little girl was air-lifted. She arrived at Tampa General at approximately 7:30 p.m. and was examined by Dr. Hoffman, TGH.

At approximately 10:15, she was pronounced dead. Authorities were again notified and a death investigation was initiated. The exact cause of death will be determined by autopsy.
