Lakeland Association of Realtors Donates Two K-9s to Sheriff's Office

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has purchased two K-9s for use in explosives detection and patrol work thanks to a donation by the Lakeland Association of Realtors.

Two German Shepherds - "Relo" and "Alex" - have joined the Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, and will be working with handlers Sgt. Cecil Lott and Sgt. Howard Martin. The canine pair will be trained in explosives detection and patrol work.  Their training should be complete by the first of next year.

A $5,000 donation from the Lakeland Association of Realtors made the purchase of the two canines possible. The Association raised the money during a fundraiser held in October. A plaque and presentation ceremony will be held at a later date.
