Lakeland Man Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges

Following a undercover operation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Special Investigations Narcotics Unit, a Lakeland man was arrested early this morning (Friday, Dec. 7, 2001) on drug trafficking charges.

Gregory Williams, DOB 8/31/61, of 5203 East Grace Street in Lakeland, was arrested and charged with Armed Trafficking in Methamphetamine (over 200 grams), Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Possession of a Destructive Device, Possession of MDMA (ecstasy), Possession of Alprozolam (prescription drug) and Possession of Cannabis (less than 20 grams).  He was booked into the Polk County Jail.

As a result of the undercover operation, a search warrant was executed at Williams' residence late last night. Inside the residence, detectives discovered 6 pounds of Methamphetamine, 17 ecstasy pills, 100 alprozolam pills, three firearms, approximately $20,000 worth of suspected stolen property and $13,056 in cash.  All items were seized and taken into evidence. Also during the search, detectives discovered a stick of dynamite wrapped with shrapnel and secured together with black tape.  The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded, secured and removed the device. No one was injured during the incident.

Another occupant of the residence, Rachel Bell, DOB 8/2/72, of that same address, was arrested at the scene on an unrelated warrant for Worthless Checks.

The investigation is continuing.
