Plane Crash


On Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at approximately 12:45 p. m., Polk County Sheriff's deputies responded to a plane crash at an isolated landing strip near Star Avenue in Lake Wales. The male pilot and three female passengers sustained minor injuries and declined further medical attention.

The pilot was identified as Ramanzo Alton Lacy, a white male, DOB 6-30-34. The three passengers, all white females were identified as Beverly Morean, DOB 10-18-43; Sally Kirkland, DOB 11-30-33 and Lois Lacy, DOB 7-22-30. All were residents from Ocala, Florida. 

Deputies arrived to find the single engine Cessna, Sky Lane, flipped over and resting on its back. The pilot was attempting to land the plane when a malfunction in the nose gear occurred.

Sheriff's deputies have secured the scene. Authorities from the FAA were contacted and will be conducting an investigation upon arrival at the air strip.
