Missing Mulberry Girl, Lindsay Shamrock, Found Unharmed in Greece

The Polk County Sheriffs Office received conformation early this morning that Lindsay Shamrock, 15, of Mulberry, has been located in Greece. Shamrock had been missing from her Mulberry residence since August 2000. Shamrock traveled to Greece to met Franz Konstantin Baehring, 35, whom she had met on the internet. Shamrock began communicating with Baehring through email and regular postal mail after her parents purchased a computer in December 1999.

“Our number one goal has always been getting Lindsay back,” said Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow. “Now that we know she is safe, we have to focus on bringing Baehring to justice.”

Through a coordinated effort with the U.S. Postal Inspector, detectives learned that Shamrock received assistance leaving the State of Florida, traveling to Ohio. On Aug. 28, 2000, Martina Crivaro, 24, of 4632 Elon Cres in Lakeland, picked up Shamrock and took her to Orlando International Airport where she flew to Cleveland, Ohio. Crivaro is currently being held in the Polk County Jail charged with Interference of Child Custody. Her bond has been set at $200,000.

Once in Ohio, Shamrock was met by Robert Arnder and his 16 year-old daughter. Arnder hid Shamrock in a local motel until arrangements could be made for her to travel to Greece. Arnder applied for and received a passport for his 16 year-old daughter, which he then gave to Shamrock. Shamrock dyed and cut her hair to resemble the appearance of Arnder's 16 year-old daughter, and used the passport to successfully travel to Greece.

During the on-going investigation, the Polk County Sheriffs Office learned that Arnder was running an internet pornography site in Ohio. With assistance from police officers in Dennison, Ohio, a search warrant was served on Arnder's residence. In early December 2000, a U.S. Postal Inspector and Polk County Sheriffs Office detective traveled to Dennison, Ohio to assist in serving the search warrant on the residence of Arnder.

In an interview with Arnder, he confessed to his involvement with getting Shamrock out of the United States. Arnder was later indicted by an Ohio Grand Jury on 147 counts of rape, 145 counts of sexual battery, 2 counts of compelling prostitution, 6 counts of pandering obscenities involving a minor, 4 counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, 3 counts of child endangering, and 1 count of interference with child custody.

Detectives believe Shamrock arrived in Greece on Sept. 17, 2000 and met Baehring a short time after her arrival. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the State Department, U.S. Customs, FBI, Interpol, the U.S. Embassy in Greece, and the Greek Consulate. There is currently an outstanding warrant for Baehring for Interference with Child Custody.
