Armed Robbery, Pursuit, Result in 2 Arrests
Last night at 10:10
p.m. a Polk County Sheriff's Office deputy conducting judicial
investigations (serving legal documents) in the Wabash area of Lakeland
noticed a Lexus parked approximately 25 feet off the side of Chestnut St.
The entire rear window of the vehicle had been shattered. As the
deputy called for K-9 assistance, another Polk Sheriff's deputy was
responding to a noise disturbance in the immediate area.
Upon arriving at a 2361 Chestnut Hills Rd., D/S Ashworth witnessed 2 black
females dressed in camouflage and a male in the front yard. The male
raised his hands and informed the deputy that one of the suspects had just
dropped a weapon and that he was being robbed. The 2 suspects
ignored the deputy's commands to stop and stole the victim's Mazda 626 and
headed in the direction of Wabash Ave. with deputies in felony pursuit.
Prior to D/S Ashworth arriving at the scene, the suspects had entered the
residence and taken money and the victim's keys at gunpoint.
After fleeing onto Wabash Ave, the suspects headed east on 10th St. and
turned onto Montrose Ave. At this time a K-9 unit assumed primary
pursuit of the vehicle. The suspects collided with a Ford pick-up
truck at the intersection of W. 10th St. and Kathleen Rd. They immediately
fled on foot. The driver, Shemekia T.
Dickerson, DOB 1/4/79, of 934 W. 11th St. in Lakeland, was apprehended
by Sheriff's Office K-9 Caesar and handler D/S Bennett, and received
minor puncture wounds from the bite and a broken leg from the collision.
Dickerson was charged with Grand Theft Auto, Carjacking, Violation of
Probation, Robbery, Armed Burglary, Felony Fleeing, Resisting Arrest, and
taken to LRMC for treatment, then Bartow to be booked into the PCSO jail.
While D/S Bennett apprehended the driver, the passenger,
Keona Murray, DOB 2/28/83, of 720 Orange Blossom
Trail in Orlando, fled on foot to a residence on Providence Rd. where she
attempted to enter the home. D/S Givens, who initially noticed the
Lexus, which turns out to have been stolen by the suspects from Orlando,
attempted to subdue Murray. As he attempted to arrest her, she
produced a concealed hand-gun. A struggle took place, but with the
assistance of other deputies the suspect was placed under control and
arrested. Murray was charged with Providing a False Name to a Law
Enforcement Officer, Carjacking, Robbery, Armed Burglary, Resisting
Arrest, and was taken LRMC for treatment, then to Bartow to be booked into
the PCSO jail.
Marcus Roberts (car jacking victim), 36, of 1117 N. Galloway Rd. in
Lakeland was not injured. Robbery victims inside the invaded
residence included Damien King, 25, of 3215 Baird Ave. in Lakeland, and
Johnny Miller, of 2450 W. 10th St in Lakeland. Both men were not
injured, but had money taken from them. The driver of the Ford pick-up
suffered minor head injuries as a result of the collision.
