Polk County Sheriff's Office ERT Ties for First Place in SWAT Round-Up

After the final competition this afternoon, team members from the Polk County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team (ERT) were tied for first place out of 54 competing teams in the 2001 SWAT Round-Up held this week at the Orange County Pistol Range in Orlando.  To break the tie, officials this evening will be tabulating each team's times and scores for each individual event to determine the top winner.  The first place winner is scheduled to be announced at tonight's dinner and awards ceremony.

The competition includes officer rescue, hostage rescue, tower scramble, pritcher scramble and the obstacle course. The obstacle course features rope climbing, high angle climbing, the wall, mud pit and parallel bars. The annual competition on attracts international teams from around the world.

Participating Polk County Sheriff's Office ERT members were: Shawn Stephenson, Shawn Sloan,  Keith Caratsole, Craig Powers, Troy Mann and John Cook. Sgt. Byron Worthington served as the team leader/coach.
