Man Arrested For Threatening a Public Servant 

A 20-year-old Lakeland man was arrested on June 10, 2002, for Threatening a Public Servant.

Johnny Yates, 03/29/82, of 1221 E. Myrtle Street in Lakeland,  threatened D/S Paul Leslie at the Book In Area of the county jail in Bartow.  D/S Leslie was in the process of booking an arrestee in when he heard Yates yelling obscenities at him.  Yates yelled, “...you better bring more than three of your boys next time to get me.  You better bring your AR15's too because I'll have mine.”  Yates also yelled, “I'm gonna shoot you,” and gestured as if he was shooting D/S Leslie with a gun.

On June 10, 2002, a warrant was obtained for Yates' arrest.  He was arrested without incident at his place of employment.  Yates was transported and booked into the Polk County Jail in Bartow.  His bond was set at $10,000.00.

Threatening a Public Servant is a third degree felony punishable by a maximum of 5 years in prison or a fine up to $5,000.00.
