Presidents' Roundtable Awards Ceremony

The Presidents' Roundtable, made up of Lakeland area Service Club Presidents, recently recognized seven agencies for their accomplishments in 2001.

Polk County Emergency Medical Services Professional of the Year is Paramedic Robert “Bob” Hall.  Hall performed a chest decompression on an entrapped teenager whose lungs were unable to fill completely; this relieved the pressure and they delivered the teenager to the hospital alive.

Florida Highway Patrol Officer of the Year was awarded to Sgt. Ronald Brannan for rescuing a man trying to take his own life by jumping off of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Officer of the Year was awarded to Officer Uilipati “Willie” Mailoto for several rescues of individuals from the Green Swamp Wildlife Management area.

Lakeland Fire Department Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Driver/Engineer James Bush who took the time to comfort and show concern for a woman who was contemplating suicide.  Because of his efforts she sought professional help and is alive and well today.

Lakeland Police Department Officer of the Year was awarded to Detective Brad Grice for utilization of his skills to solve a vicious homicide.

Polk County Fire Services Firefighter of the Year is Engineer Travis Houston for his involvement in extricating a victim from a car crash involving a concrete barrier.

Polk County Sheriff's Office Officer of the Year was awarded to Deputy Sharon Rawson for saving the life of a fellow officer after he was exposed to an ammonia leak at a local plant.

In addition to the Officer of the Year awards, the Presidents' Roundtable awards the Fallen Hero Award for the sacrifices men and women  have made to Law Enforcement.  Fallen Hero Awards were awarded to Tamara Rhoden and Amy Wilkinson, the wives of PCSO Flight Officer, Larry Rhoden and Pilot Brian Wilkinson who lost their lives in the line of duty on October 22, 2001, during a helicopter crash.
