Two Juveniles in Custody after Waffle House Robbery

News media representatives are invited to attend a Polk County Sheriff's Office dedication ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 4000 Ben Durrance Road in Winter Haven.  Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr. will dedicate the Sheriff's Office aviation complex, known as the "hangar", in honor of Deputy Sheriff Pilot Gene "Brian" Wilkinson and Deputy Sheriff Flight Observer Larry Rhoden, who were killed in the line of duty on October 22, 2001.  During the ceremony, the facility will be named the Wilkinson-Rhoden Aviation Complex and a memorial to the fallen deputies  will be unveiled.

The county-owned multi-use facility includes a hangar which houses the Sheriff's Office aircraft, storage for the agency's emergency-response vehicles and marine crafts, and offices for personnel assigned to the Special Operations Division.  The new memorial in front of the facility includes a flagpole with an engraved marker at its base surrounded by landscaping, and was made possible through generous donations by community businesses.  The flagpole was donated by Newmark International of Bartow; the shrubbery was donated by the Spirit Lake Road Nursery of Winter Haven; and the monument was donated by National Memorials of Lakeland.  Sheriff Crow and the Wilkinson and Rhoden families will be in attendance.
