On May 8, 2002, Amy Riggin, of Department of
Children and Families, went to Hansell's residence at 1910 Ranchland
Drive, #33, in Lakeland to conduct an investigation. Hansell pulled
a 30/30 rifle on Ms. Riggin threatening to shoot her. He attempted
to flee when he heard the responding deputies sirens, but was quickly
apprehended, charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and
transported to jail. The weapon was recovered from the front seat of
On July 3, 2002, Hansell was arrested at 5:30 p.m. and booked into the Polk County Jail in Bartow after a warrant was obtained for Corruption by Threat and Retaliating Against a Witness. His bond was set at $50,000.00 on both counts with the condition he have no contact with Ms. Riggin.
