Suspect Arrested For Stabbing Stepfather to Death

Polk County Sheriff's detectives arrested William Lee Edwards, DOB 1/17/81, of 2313 Everett Street in Lakeland, on July 13, 2002, for the stabbing and murder of his stepfather, Timothy Francis Edwards, DOB 6/23/59, of the same address.

On July 12, 2002, at approximately 9:00 p.m., William Edwards took a butcher knife from a kitchen, walked outside where his stepfather Timothy was working on a vehicle, and stabbed Timothy once in the upper left shoulder area.  Timothy Edwards did not survive the attack.  The incident occurred at 2320 Peachtree Street in Lakeland, a friend's residence where Timothy routinely worked on vehicles.

William Edwards stated in a post-Miranda interview that he stabbed Timothy Edwards because he believed Timothy was Osama Bin Laden, and also that he believed Timothy was a serial killer when William was a small child.  William Edwards has been charged with Premeditated Murder and is being held in the Polk County Jail on no bond.
