Fugitive from Justice for Violation of Parole Arrested In Polk County

The Polk County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Warrants Unit arrested a fugitive from justice, wanted in Virginia for violation of parole for robbery and murder, on July 30, 2002.  Clarence Jasper Morris, DOB 4/11/57, of 5134 Harvard Street West in Lakeland, had a warrant for his arrest issued by the Virginia Parole Board on August 21, 1998.  The Virginia Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Office recently learned Morris was living and working in Lakeland, FL, and sent a request to Polk County yesterday, July 29, 2002, for assistance in locating him.

According to Virginia records, Clarence Morris shot and killed a cashier of a 7-11 Store on the morning of October 12, 1975, during a robbery.  Morris pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to a total of 105 years in prison.  His prison term started October 13, 1975, and Morris was granted parole from December 1987 until February 2030.  However, in 1998 the Virginia Parole Board charged Morris with violating several conditions of his parole and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Polk County Sheriff's Warrants detectives located Morris at his residence the day after receiving the call for assistance from Virginia, and placed him under arrest.  Morris was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Polk County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Virginia.
