36 Arrested During Investigation at Latino Night Club

In a large scale joint undercover operation,  Polk County Sheriff's  Office Bureau of Special Investigations units arrested and charged 36 people on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002,  at the Latino Night Club located at 1325 N. Combee Road in Lakeland.  The operation was in response to ongoing complaints of criminal activity at the night club.

During the operation, two undercover detectives entered the night club accompanied by two underage operatives. Once inside, the underage operatives purchased alcohol from bartenders. Uniformed detectives then entered the night club and located numerous underage persons in
possession of alcohol and in violation of the youth protection ordinance.  A total of 21 juveniles were cited with violation of the youth protection ordinance.

During the investigation, the following were arrested and charged:

  • Eugene Edward O'Steen, DOB 11/28/38, of Tampa,  charged with Contributing  to the Delinquency of a Minor (21 counts); Allowing Minors to Patronize a Dance Hall (21 counts); Permitting the Sale of Alcohol to Person Under 21; and Violation of Youth Protection Ordinance (21 counts).
  • Maria Dugarte-Hung, the club owner, DOB 04/20/64, of Tampa, charged with  contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (21 counts); Allowing Minors to Patronize a Dance Hall (21 counts); Permitting the Sale of Alcohol to Person Under 21; and Violation of Youth Protection Ordinance (21 counts).
  • Gloria Maldonado,  DOB 2/6/65, of Tampa, charged with Selling of Alcoholic Beverage to Person Under 21.
  • Jennifer Morris Wyman, DOB 12/14/76, of Canada, charged with Selling of Alcoholic Beverage to Person Under 21.

A total of 36 people were arrested on various charges including Possession of Fraudulent Identification Cards, DUI, Possession of Open Container of Alcohol, Possession of Alcohol by a  Person Under 21, Resisting Without Violence; Trespass and various traffic citations.

The joint investigation and operation included the PCSO Vice Unit, MAGTAF, Traffic Unit, Echo Platoons, Tactical Drug Unit, Intelligence Unit, Narcotics Unit, Auto Theft Unit and Auxillary Unit and the Division of Alcoholic Beverage and Tobacco. The investigation is continuing.
