Suspect Arrested In Homicide/Robbery at Del's Go Shop Food Store

Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives arrested a suspect this afternoon and charged him with the homicide/armed robbery of the owner of Del's Go Shop Food Store on Monday (Aug. 12, 2002).
Harold Albert Blake, DOB 9/2/79, last known address of 322 Quincy Street in Lakeland, was arrested this afternoon and charged with First Degree Homicide, Attempted Armed Robbery and Grand Theft Auto.  Detectives received information that Blake was possibly at an apartment complex located on Sixth Street in the Winter Haven area.  Numerous units responded to the area, and the suspect eventually surrendered without incident.  Blake will be booked into the Polk County Jail.

The homicide/robbery occurred at around 6 a.m. on Mar. 22, 2002, at Del's Go  Shop, located at 14 Coleman Road in Winter Haven. The owner, 37-year-old Maheshkumar Patel, AKA "Mike," of 126 Kings Pond Avenue in Winter Haven was fatally shot during the attempted robbery.  Patel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe that Blake approached the food store with the intention of robbing the store, and then shot and killed Blake prior to fleeing in a stolen vehicle.  The investigation is continuing.
