BBQ and Rummage Sale to Benefit Mary Campbell Scholarship Fund

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a barbeque (hot dogs and hamburgers) meal and rummage sale on Saturday, August 31, 2002 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, 2905 Iowa Road in Eaton Park.  The Eaton Park COP (Community Oriented Policing) Support Association and Sheriff's COP deputies organized the event, whose entire proceeds will go to the Sergeant Mary Campbell Memorial Fund.

The Bethany Church has generously provided its facilities for the event.  The Wal-Mart Distribution Center is donating the food for the grilled lunches, and rummage sale items have also been donated.  Free entertainment will be provided by Bill Ross, a local gospel singer/entertainer.

Sgt. Mary Campbell, who passed away last year, was an avid COP deputy and was
well-known and respected in communities throughout Polk County.  A fund in her name has been established at Polk Community College, and will provide a two-year scholarship to one young adult per year.
