Consumer Alert: Organization with No Ties to the Florida
Sheriff’s Association Making Telephone Solicitation Calls
Recently, the Florida Sheriff’s Association
advised me and the other Florida Sheriffs that there is a group
called “The Florida Sheriffs Deputies Association” or “FSDA” making
telephone solicitation calls to raise money. People receiving such
phone calls have reported feeling intimidated and even pressured to donate
money to this organization, partly because they mistakenly think the
caller is from the Florida Sheriff’s Association.
I urge the public to be advised that the Florida Sheriff’s Association is
in no way affiliated with the Florida Sheriffs Deputies Association—the
“FSDA” is, however, affiliated with a labor union. Upon closer
inspection of the “FSDA” website (located at www.dcpba.org/about.htm),
that web address is actually the official website of the Dade County
Police Benevolent Association.
Incidentally, The Florida Sheriff’s Association is a not-for-profit
corporation made up of all 67 Sheriffs of Florida, approximately 3,500
business leaders and 85,000 citizens throughout the state. If you have any
questions about the Florida Sheriff’s Association, please visit their
to learn more about them, or contact the Florida Sheriff’s Association at
(850) 877-2165. The Florida Sheriff's Association and Florida
Sheriff's Youth Ranches NEVER solicit by phone. Both the FSA and
FSYR use direct mail to inform the public about their activities and to
invite their support.
