Cops Golf Tournament Slated For This Weekend

The Polk County Sheriff's Office will be sponsoring the 2002 COPS Golf Tournament at the Ridgewood Lakes Golf and Country Club on Hwy 27 (north of Haines City) this Saturday, October 5, 2002. The four-man scramble tournament will begin at 8 a.m.

Thirty-nine 4-man teams will test their golfing skills in an effort to raise money for the Polk County Sheriff's Office Community Oriented Policing (COPS) program. All proceeds from the tournament will help buy Christmas presents for kids in the Polk County Sheriff's Office COPS programs throughout the county.

Several corporate sponsors also have donated items that will be auctioned off during the day. All proceeds from the golf tournament and silent auction will help buy Christmas presents for underprivileged children and elderly members of the community. Donations of new unwrapped toys and teddy bears also will be accepted at the tournament. If an individual can not attend the tournament, but would like to make a donation, contact  Sam McGuirt at 863-534-6363.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office, in coordination with the Polk County Board of County Commissioners, local communities, and the federal government, operate Community Oriented Policing (COPS) units throughout unincorporated Polk County. The COPS deputies work to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the public, and the quality of life for underprivileged children and elderly citizens of Polk County.
