At 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, Ridge District deputies responded to a disturbance complaint by a neighbor to nearby residence 315 Piney Avenue in Lake Wales. Deputy Sheriff Jose Aponte and Deputy Sheriff Matthew Beebe, after getting no response at the front door, observed through a window of the residence a white male subject choking a white female victim, later identified as Jay Lippincopp (DOB 7/17/56) and his wife Adrienne. The deputies yelled at Lippincopp, who stopped choking his wife, and they immediately attempted to place him under arrest. Lippincopp resisted the deputies' efforts, and the struggle led from the house to the front porch. During the struggle, Lippincopp's small dog bit Deputy Aponte, and Deputy Beebe sustained a minor injury to one knee. The deputies then applied chemical agent to Lippincopp and were able to arrest him.
When EMT's arrived at the scene, they determined Lippincopp, who suffers from diabetes, had a high level of sugar in his bloodstream. The 2 deputies and Lippincopp were transported to the Lake Wales Emergency Room for treatment. The injuries to the 2 deputies are not serious, and Lippincopp is still under observation.
Once released, Lippincopp will be booked into the Polk County Jail, where he is being charged with Attempted Murder, Resisting Arrest with Violence, and 2 counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
