Undercover Operation Targets Underage Sale of Alcohol 

A joint undercover operation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office School Resource Unit and the State of Florida Beverage Unit targeting the sale of alcohol to underage customers at convenience stores resulted in the arrest of two store clerks on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002.

During the operation, the following were arrested for selling alcoholic beverages to an
underage undercover "customer:"

  • Devang Purshottem Patel, DOB 7/27/67, of 260 West Van Fleet Drive in Bartow; store clerk at Right Way Food Store located at 4205 Club House Road in Lakeland.
  • Claire Mary Acquarola, DOB 3/4/48, of 1123 Walt Williams Road in Lakeland; store clerk at Speedway located at 4612 Cleveland Heights Blvd. in Lakeland.

Both were charged with one count Selling an Alcoholic Beverage to a Person under 21 Years  of Age.

The operation targeted a total of 11 convenience stores in the county. The above listed suspects were the only clerks to sell alcohol  to the underage "customer."
