PCSO Warrants Unit Nabs One of Five Most Wanted

On July 20, 2001, Stephen Cox, DOB 10/12/56, was convicted of Armed Robbery that occurred in 1995 in Lakeland, and was sentenced to one year of community control and four years' probation.  In December 2001, Cox violated his community control on several counts by leaving his approved  residence at Polk Bridge, a drug treatment facility in Auburndale, and by using cocaine.  A warrant for Cox's arrest was signed in January 2002.

In an unrelated matter, PCSO Warrants Detective Craig Powers was searching for another subject with two active warrants in early October 2002.  During his investigation, the name Stephen Cox kept coming up.  Det. Powers recognized the name as one of the Polk County Sheriff's Office Five Most Wanted Top Fugitives from Justice.  Det. Powers showed Cox's photo to several subjects during the investigation, and learned Stephen Cox was indeed the fugitive sought.

Det. Powers and fellow Warrants Detective Chuck Hicks drove to Tampa on October 22, 2002, to the home of Billie Glimpse, Cox's sister, with whom they discovered Cox was living.  Detectives Powers and Hicks sat outside the residence, 5303 North Branch Road, and awaited Cox's arrival.  Stephen Cox was arrested without incident that  evening as he walked up to the house and was transported to the Polk County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

The Tampa Police Department was also on hand to assist with the arrest.
