The Polk County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to providing the latest and best training and instruction to its sworn and civilian members. Because of this commitment, numerous improvements and renovations are in the works for the Sheriff's Office Training Center located east of Bartow.
After weeks of demolition and construction, renovations to the Polk County Sheriff's Office training center are wrapping up. Thanks to a cooperative effort between the Sheriff's Office, the Board of County Commissioners, and County Facilities Management, the training center now features a new administrative building.
The old deteriorating building was demolished and replaced with a new, updated modular design. The new building features a large conference room and video production studio. The studio will be used to produce training videos and other informative programs. The old training center restrooms also were replaced with new facilities complete with showers.
Additional improvements to the training center also are being considered. Sheriff's Office staff is researching the possibility of constructing a new large-scale classroom capable of holding up to 100 people with the goal of offering larger training sessions and attracting additional training programs.
Additionally, the firearm practice target system has been upgraded from stationary to a turning system. A new lighting system for the target practice area is in the planning stages, and other possible improvements could include a new cement wall and towers.
