In a proactive effort focused primarily on the illegal sale and use of crack cocaine, the Polk County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit, with help from the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Task Force designated a week in December, starting December 2, 2002, as "Cocaine Enforcement Week". The end result, however, yielded much more than just cocaine-related offenses. In all, detectives seized 7 pounds of methamphetamines, 400 Ecstasy pills, $8,000 in U.S. currency, 13.2 pounds of cocaine, 14 pounds of marijuana, and made 43 arrests. Due to the success so far, the initiative will continue and intensify throughout the month of December, and will focus on disrupting the flow of all illegal drugs county-wide.

Entering into the second week of the campaign, on December 11th detectives made seizures from two vehicles, one in Alturas and one in Lake Wales, which yielded approximately 13.2 pounds of cocaine and 14 pounds of marijuana. Jimmie Conner, of 2042 Canal Road in Lake Wales, and Raymond Finney, of 624 Ave A SW in Winter Haven, were arrested during the bust.
