Suspect Arrested In Frostproof Homicide

Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives arrested a 27-year-old Frostproof man early this morning (Wednesday, Mar. 27, 2002) and charged him with Second Degree Murder for the Mar. 24, 2002, shooting death of Moises Castruita-Morales, DOB 9/4/59, of 1221 Fort Meade Rd. in Frostproof.

Jose Luis Trinidad, (alias of Martimiano Lopez) DOB 2/19/75, of 1221 Fort Meade Rd. in Frostproof,  was arrested at approximately 4 a.m. this morning at a residence located at 1900 West Frostproof Road. Detectives received information that the suspect possibly was at this address, and arrested him without incident. Detectives had been seeking the suspect, also known as Martimiano Lopez, ever since he fled from the early morning shooting this weekend.

At around 12 a.m. on Sunday morning (Mar. 24), the suspect and the victim - both residents of 1221 Fort Meade Rd. in Frostproof - got into an altercation. Although detectives are not certain what the argument was about, witnesses claim that the two men had disagreements in the past. The argument turned deadly when the suspect shot his roommate multiple times with a handgun, which detectives believe was a revolver. The suspect fled from the scene at the time.

After being located and arrested, Trinidad was booked into the Polk County Jail.
