PCSO Invites Media to Methamphetamine Class / Demonstration

The Polk County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigations Section will be conducting a methamphetamine lab training class on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the fire training facility at the Ridge Vo-Tech Center, which is located at 7700 State Road 544 in Winter Haven.  Polk County  Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Polk County Fire Services, Polk County Haz-Mat, and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) will also take part in the training.

The training will focus on the increasing number of methamphetamine labs (mobile and structural) in Polk County, and how to properly and safely respond to a meth lab once one is discovered.  It will include classroom training and a demonstration.  The demonstration will consist of fully geared emergency personnel (certified members of the above mentioned agencies) entering an occupied smoke filled structure where a meth lab exists.

The media will have photograph/ video opportunities.  However, video or photographs of any classroom training will need to be done in such a manner that the identities of those attending are not disclosed.
