Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives arrested two suspects this afternoon (Thursday, Apr. 25, 2002) following the discovery of the body of a black male in a vacant lot in Auburndale this morning.

Deputies responded to the reported discovery of a body at 7:46 a.m. this morning (Thursday, Apr. 25, 2001).  The body of Sylvester L. Reynolds, DOB 4/11/79, of 1416 26th Street NW in Winter Haven, was found by a passerby in a vacant lot located across the street from 718 New Hope Street in Auburndale. The area is described as a high crime residential area.

During the investigation, detectives determined that Reynolds was the victim of a shooting that occurred at around 3:30 a.m. this morning.

This afternoon, Detectives arrested Christopher Robinson, DOB 4/6/76, of 719 Henry Street in Auburndale, and charged him with 2nd Degree Murder. Also arrested was Corey McKinney, 2/7/74, of 1360 NE 3rd Street in Winter Haven, and charged him with Accessory After the Fact, Obstructing Justice and Tampering with Evidence.

Detectives believe that the two suspects and the victim were involved in a confrontation of some type in the area of 718 New Hope Street. The confrontation escalated, and Robinson shot the victim. McKinney then dragged the victim to the vacant lot across the street, according to detectives.
