PCSO Vial Of Life Program Gains Sponsorship

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce that Martin Drug is the new sponsor of the Vial of Life Program. Martin Drug, which is located at 437 Central Avenue in Lakeland, is a neighborhood pharmacy that has serviced Polk County citizens for nearly 45 years.  As an independently owned company, Martin Drug caters to the needs of citizens by providing services such as free prescription delivery and specialized flavoring of pediatric medicines.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office will recognize Martin Drug Pharmacy Consultant Robyn Smith for her commitment as a sponsor of the Vial of Life Program on February 11, 2002, 9 a.m., at the Lake Pointe Village clubhouse, located at 2200 State Road 37 North in Mulberry.  Polk County Sheriff's Office Colonel Grady Judd and Major Jeff Tebo will be in attendance to recognize Ms. Smith.

The Vial of Life Program is a national program designed to provide emergency personnel with pertinent patient information.  This information is readily available to emergency personnel in the event that a victim is unable to speak for himself/ herself.

The program consists of a plastic vial, 2 stickers, 2 medical information forms, and is free of charge.  Additional medical forms are given to family members, if needed.  The Polk County Sheriff's Office purchases inserts and labels that are inserted in a plastic vial, along with an instruction sheet that contains patient medical information.  An orange sticker is placed on the outside of the vial and another sticker is placed on the outside of the individual's refrigerator door.  The vial is then placed inside the refrigerator for emergency personnel's use.  Polk County Sheriff's Office volunteers assist in preparing the vials for presentations.

The vial of Life Program is especially popular among Polk's senior residents.  In addition to neighborhood presentations, the Sheriff's Office conducts presentations regarding the program at various health fairs and mall events throughout Polk County.
