Thanks to a tip called in to the Crimestoppers hotline, Haines City Police and Polk County Sheriff's detectives located Jerome Person, DOB 6/22/82, at a residence on 7th Street in Haines City yesterday afternoon, January 16, 2003, and placed him under arrest without incident.
Person had a warrant for his arrest for Attempted Murder in Haines City, and was wanted for questioning about a string of armed robberies in the county. Immediately after his arrest, Person was taken to the Haines City Police Department for questioning by investigators. There he confessed post-Miranda to taking part in several robberies, among them the Sonny's Restaurant located within the Haines City limits, and 2 PCSO cases: the Island Food Store, 1199 Powerline Road in Haines City, on December 17, 2002; and the Denny's Restaurant, 44111 U.S. Hwy 27 in Davenport, in which the manager was shot, on December 29, 2002.
Detectives also apprehended 16-year-old Jarvis Wilson, DOB 8/28/86, of 1115 Avenue N in Haines City, the same day, for his participation in the Denny's robbery. Wilson was booked into the Juvenile Assessment Center last night and charged with 1 count Attempted Felony Murder and 1 count Attempted Armed Robbery.
Person is being held in the Polk County Jail without bond and has been charged with 2 counts of Armed Robbery (Sonny's, Island Food); 1 count Attempted Armed Robbery (Denny's); 1 count Attempted Felony Murder (Denny's); 1 count Attempted 2nd Degree Murder (HCPD case); and Failure to Appear for a prior Battery charge.
