Search/Dig at Highland City Home Wraps Up, No Human Remains Found

Following an extensive search and dig in the back yard of a Highland City residence located at 5530 3rd Street, Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide detectives have determined that there are no human remains located at that site.

This brings to a close the latest chapter in the 32-year-old missing person case of Mary Margaret Cook, who disappeared in 1970. Detectives strongly believe her disappearance was the result of a homicide, according to Colonel Grady Judd.

"We have determined through the investigative process that - contrary to information we had received during the course of this investigation - the victim is not buried beneath the concrete shed in the back yard of this residence," Judd said. Although the search/dig at the Highland City residence has ended, the investigation will continue, Judd said.
