Sheriff's Office to Participate In "Click It or Ticket" Campaign

The largest safety belt crackdown of the year is set to begin, and Sheriff Crow says PCSO will be doing its part to send a strong message to local motorists:  Click It or Ticket.  Safety belts, that is.

The Click It or Ticket campaign, which is conducted from May 19th to June 1st, is a period of strict enforcement of Florida’s safety belt and child passenger safety laws, along with a statewide advertising and publicity campaign.  State, county and local law enforcement from  across Florida team up during the campaign to get Florida’s motorists buckled up over Memorial Day weekend, historically a time of increased traffic fatalities on Florida’s roadways.

Sheriff Crow says the safety belt message is an extension of the national movement toward being vigilant of the dangers that surround us each day.  “There are uncertainties, unpredictable threats, that we face each day.  Our country is working daily to protect us from the threat of terrorism.  We can take measures to protect ourselves from an ever-present danger—traffic crashes," says Crow.

“We know that traffic increases during Memorial Day weekend,” he said.  “We know that traffic crashes kill and injure hundreds of thousands of people in Florida each year.  And we know that reminding motorists that they could face a citation if they do not wear their safety belt is proven to get more people buckled up.  This is a lifesaving formula that is predictable, and we are going to be out in force to see that our motorists know it.  The choice is an easy one:  Click It or Ticket.”
