Polk County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested two suspects late last night, and charged them with the attempted murder of Lakeland resident Dennis Michael Peterson, who was shot twice and left for dead in North Lakeland early Monday morning.
Paul Wright, DOB 7/11/69, of 5310 Deeson Road in Lakeland, and Travis Deeson, DOB 3/31/77, of 3915 Palow Road in Lakeland, both were arrested at approximately 11:30 p.m. last night, Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Super 8 Motel in Mulberry after deputies received information that the suspects had just checked in. During a subsequent search of the hotel room, deputies discovered baggies of Methamphetamine and various drug paraphernalia items. Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail.
Wright is charged with Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Trafficking in Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting an Officer without Violence (for hiding under a mattress and initially refusing to surrender). Deeson is charged with Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Trafficking in Meth, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Investigation into the shooting revealed that early Monday morning, the suspects met the victim in the area of Ritter Road. The suspects bound the victim and threw him in the back of a vehicle and drove him to an area on Deen Still Road in North Lakeland where he was shot twice, once in the head and once in the arm, by suspect Wright.
