As part of the Polk County Sheriff's Office's commitment to traffic and citizen safety, Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr. announces a new project to help ensure our young bicyclists are safe while traveling on roadways. In partnership with Amscot Financial, Inc., PCSO deputies will be on-hand to give away 500 children's bicycle helmets at 614 E. Memorial Blvd. in Lakeland on August 27, 2003, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Amscot Financial, Inc. has three locations in Polk County. They are donating and distributing nearly 4,500 helmets to a total of 8 counties in Florida. Amscot executives see this as a way of giving back to the communities they serve. Sheriff Crow expresses his gratitude on behalf of the citizens of Polk County for this generous and worthwhile donation.
Deputies will be on-hand to help fit and distribute bicycle helmets to those children who need them, and will also provide information about bicycle and roadway safety. All are invited and encouraged to attend. Photo and interview opportunities for media representatives will be made available.
