Traffic Unit Encourages Safe Holiday Season

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit hopes you have a safe and enjoyable holiday season. Traffic deputies will be patrolling throughout the county to ensure your traveling safety. The Traffic Unit encourages motorists to follow all driving rules and take precautions during this busy holiday season.

As a reminder:

* Plan ahead – allow extra time
* Expect delays – Plan your trip and route allowing for heavy traffic and construction
* Concentrate - Don’t become distracted by eating, drinking, or talking on the cell
* Follow the speed limit – Speed limits may change quickly from area to area or be
                  lower than you think.
* Courtesy – Be courteous and respectful of other motorists.

A special reminder regarding all-terrain vehicles and certain other motorized scooters or mopeds. If you plan to give a vehicle of this type as a gift, please:

* Be familiar with rules regarding their use.
* Ensure children have the required head and eye protection.

* Certain vehicles of this type are not permitted for operation on the roadway.

* Misuse may result in serious bodily injury to your child.

By following these safety precautions, the Traffic Unit wishes you a safe and happy holiday season.
