Two Arrested for Armed Robbery
Polk County Sheriff's deputies arrested two
men and charged them with armed robbery after they robbed a local store
in Lakeland yesterday.
According to the arrest affidavits, on March 9, 2004, around 8:15 pm,
two suspects, one armed with a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and
one with a knife, entered the Queens Discount Beverage at 2934 Combee
Road in Lakeland. The suspect with the gun immediately fired several
rounds into the ceiling, demanded money from the store owner, and then
hit him in the face with the gun. He then ordered the owner and an
employee to the ground, and kicked the employee in the head.
The second suspect, armed with the knife, approached a customer in the
store and robbed him of his money. Both suspects then fled northbound on
foot, where they were immediately spotted by deputy sheriffs, who
entered into pursuit. One man, Rodolfo Rodriguez, DOB 4/14/81, of 4018
Carter Court in Polk City, was immediately taken into custody. The
second suspect, Angel Luis Rodriguez, DOB 5/26/85, of 3949 Luce Road in
Lakeland, continued to flee on foot but was apprehended a short time
later when a resident in the area alerted the deputies to a suspicious
man trying to gain entry into his home.
All of the money taken was recovered, and the victims were treated for
their injuries. Angel Rodriguez already had an active warrant for his
arrest for Aggravated Assault/Battery. Both men were transported and
booked into the Polk County Jail without incident, and each was charged
with 1 count Armed Robbery (10-20-Life).
