In Observance of National Police Week, the Fraternal Order of Police Polk County Lodge 46, and the Polk County Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, Inc., will present the Seventeenth Annual Polk County Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at the Polk County Law Enforcement Memorial in the Lakeland Bicentennial Park. The park is located on Lime Street between Lake Beulah Drive and the Lakeland Center.
Family members of fallen officers, representatives from various public service organizations and local government agencies will be attending. Members of the public and press are welcome to attend. Immediately following the service a luncheon for family members and guests will be held at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, located at 125 West Brannen Road, Lakeland.
Highlights of the service will include the presentation of colors by the combined honor guard, the presentation of the fallen rider, and the roll call of heroes. There will also be a 21 gun salute and a fly over by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Lakeland Police Department aviation units. Speakers will include: Lieutenant Craig C. Smith, Fraternal Order of Police President; the Reverend Mark Skinner of the Medulla Baptist Church; and Dr. Jay Dennis of the First Baptist Church on the Mall. There will be a processional piper and music will be provided by the George Jenkins High School Chorus and the Lakeland Christian School.
