Lakeland Store Manager and Clerk Arrested for Sale of Obscene Material

In a joint undercover operation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Special Investigations and the Lakeland Police Department, a Lakeland store  manager and clerk were arrested today (Wednesday, June 2, 2004) for selling obscene materials.

Amirul Islam, (store manager) DOB 3/14/63, of 322 South Iowa Avenue #8 in Lakeland, was arrested and charged with:
1 count Wholesale Promotion of Obscene Materials (F3)
1 count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with Intent to Deliver (F3)
1 count Retail Display of Materials Harmful to Minors (M1)

Hakim Shafiullah, (store clerk) DOB 12/18/54, of 1003 Devane Street in Lakeland, was arrested and charged with:
1 count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with Intent to Deliver (F3)
1 count Retail Display of Materials Harmful to Minors (M1)

During the two-month undercover operation, the suspects sold bulk quantities of DVDs containing obscene material to an undercover detective from a Lakeland convenience store - the Lake Beulah Food Mart, located at 117 Lake Beulah Drive - on two different occasions. The obscene materials were kept in a back area of the store.

The suspects were arrested at the store today following the execution of a search warrant, and booked into the Polk County Jail.
