Polk County Sheriff's Office Provides Gun Safety Training

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of Polk County, will be hosting several upcoming Gun Safety Awareness Training Sessions.

Did you know that one half of the homes in the United States have guns? Even if you don’t have a gun in your home, you should talk to your children about guns. Explain to them the risks of gun injury outside the home in places they may visit or play. There’s no such thing as a loaded gun that is safe in a home, especially if children are around. Learn about these facts and other gun safety related topics at the listed locations:

July 17, 2004, 10:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m., St Stephens Episcopal Church, 1820 State Rd. 540A East, Lakeland

July 24, 2004, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Polk County Sheriff’s Office Northeast District Office, 3635 Ave. G N.W., Winter Haven

August 7, 2004, 10:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m., Providence Fire Department Community Room, 8936 US Hwy 98 N., Lakeland

August 14, 2004, 10:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m., Eagle Ridge Mall, Community Room, Hwy 27, Lake Wales

After each presentation, gun safety locks will be issued, free of charge, to all citizens who complete the training.

Seating is limited so those planning on attending should RSVP to the Crime Prevention Unit of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 863-534-6677.
