"Public Safety Night" at Joker Marchant Raises $5000 for Memorial
For the second year in a row, the Lakeland
Tigers Organization, sponsored in part by Riverside National Bank,
hosted "Public Safety Night' at Joker Marchant Stadium.
On Saturday, June 26, 2004, amateur teams from law enforcement and
public safety agencies competed in a softball tournament. Afterwards,
there was a silent auction, a raffle of hundreds of donated prizes, and
the Lakeland Tigers vs. Tampa Yankees baseball game.
The Lakeland Tigers reduced the price of their advance tickets to $4.00
for this event, with $2.00 per ticket being donated to the Polk County
Law Enforcement Memorial expansion project.
As a result of the cooperative efforts from PCSO, the Lakeland Tigers,
Riverside Bank, and other area public safety agencies, over $5000 was
raised for the Memorial Expansion.
The Polk Law Enforcement Memorial honorably displays the names of the 26
Polk County law enforcement officers, corrections officers, and troopers
who have served and been killed in the line of duty. The memorial
currently only has 4 empty pedestals left. Plans are to add a second
tier around the outer perimeter of the current Memorial, allowing for
expansion for approximately 45 additional pedestals. As soon as the
required funding is secured, construction on the project can begin.
