Sheriff Crow Issues Storm Advisory

Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr. would like to advise residents to heed the following information and precautions during the onslaught and aftermath of Hurricane Frances:

DURING THE STORM:
Do not call 911 or the main Sheriff's Office non-emergency number unless absolutely necessary. Depending on the severity of the storm, emergency response agencies may have limited resources and capabilities.

AFTER THE STORM:
  • Be a good neighbor - check on each other to ensure everyone around you is safe and able to survive during the aftermath.

  • Stay indoors after dark.

  • Be careful around downed power lines.

  • If traffic signals are inoperable, treat all intersections with the "4-way stop" rule. Be courteous and cautious of other drivers.

  • Do not leave your residence after the storm has cleared the area if it is during the evening.

  • Do not drive around after the storm has cleared the area, whether it is day or night, unless absolutely necessary.

  • Be very careful of flooded areas, especially when driving. Floodwaters can be swift-moving and much deeper and more dangerous than they look - do not attempt to negotiate floodwaters in your vehicle.
