Lakeland Man Arrested on 15-Count Oregon Warrant for Sexual Abuse Against Children

Polk County Sheriff's Office Special Victim's Unit detectives arrested a Lakeland man early yesterday morning (Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004) on a 15-count warrant for the 1998 sexual abuse of multiple young children.

Robert Wayne Stewart, DOB 7/17/59, of 8025 Ridge Glen Circle North in Lakeland, was arrested at his residence on an Oregon warrant for the following charges:
2 counts Rape in the First Degree
3 counts Sodomy in the First Degree
3 counts Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree
7 counts Sexual Abuse in the First Degree

The charges stem from a Washington County, Oregon, case in which Stewart sexually abused numerous victims in 1998. The Oregon warrant was issued last week, and Polk detectives were notified that the suspect possibly was living in the Lakeland area. PCSO detectives responded and Stewart was arrested without incident at his residence and booked into the Polk County Jail on $3.25 million bond.

Anyone who has any additional local information about the suspect (who has been living in Polk County for the last 4 years) is asked to call Sgt. John Rose of the Special Victims Unit at 534-0621.
