Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr., is pleased to announce that for the fourth year in a row, crime in unincorporated Polk County, over which the Polk County Sheriff's Office has jurisdiction, has decreased. During the first six months of 2004, crime went down 6.6%, compared to the same time period in 2003. According to recently released semi-annual statistics from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the overall crime reported in Florida decreased 2.3% the first six months of the year.
From January to June 2004, compared to January to June 2003, crime in unincorporated Polk in nearly all measured categories had decreases, some of them double-digit.
